Research Sites
Most of the research of the LUQ LTER is conducted in the Luquillo Experimental Forest (LEF) mountain which rises to over 1075 m with prevailing winds coming off the ocean from the east drop rain as they rise over it. Rainfall increases with elevation, ranging from about 3530 mm year-1 at low elevations to 4850 mm year-1 higher up. See a list of research sites.
