LUQ Information Management

Gotitas del saber

Did you know?....

...that if you receive the messages sent to luq@lternet.edu that means that you DO have an lternet.edu, that is, an LTER Network (LNO) email account?

...and that your handel* (or user name) would then be the first letter of your first name and your last name?

For example, Nicholas Brokaw's handle is "nbrokaw" thus his Network's email address is: nbrokaw@lternet.edu.

Did you also know?....

...that this account is idle, meaning that it only serves as a "router" to your real email accounts?

...and that you will have to check these messages NOT in lternet.edu (is idle, remember?) but in whatever email account you have entered in the LNO's personnel database, which you can check at: http://intranet.lternet.edu/

For example, Nick's real email accoint lies on ITES email server at: ites.upr.edu, and his real email account, where he saves and checks his messages is nbrokaw@ites.upr.edu (the handle here is the same but does not have to be like that).

*Vocabulary: When communicating via an online service, your handle is the name that you use to identify yourself. It could be your real name, a nickname, or a completely fictitious name. (See http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/h/handle.html)
