This may be of interest to any of you who will be on-island next Monday,
December 19. Marcela Suarez will be presenting her MS thesis on birds in
forest patches in the San Juan metropolitan area. As you know, as the LUQ LTER
extends outside the LEF we will be encountering urban environments more and
more. This thesis presents some interesting results on the influence of both
landscape- and patch-scale factors on the bird community.

The defence will be held in the Julio Garcia Diaz amphitheatre on the Río
Piedras campus at 2:00 pm, Dec. 19th. It will be followed by a reception in my
laboratory, C-235 in the New Natural Sciences building, from about 4:00 pm
onwards. All those interested are welcome to both events.
