From Eda C. Meléndez-Colom, Information Management:

Poster presented at the 2004 ESA Meeting:

Last August, we had a poster presented at the Portland ESA 2004 Meeting on visualizations of the LFDP, "Prototyping visualizations for long-term forest
vegetation structure data collected in the Luquillo Forest Dynamics Plot, Puerto Rico", by Meléndez-Colom, E., Fiala, A., Finch, M., Cushing, J., Nadkarni,N., and Thompson, J. Data visualizations for this project were generated by the Canopy Database Project (CDP) prototype CanopyView using a MS Access database from the CDP's DataBank program. CanopyView was extended to produce visualizations for the grid-type data in the Canopy Height Classes and Elevation datasets of the Luquillo Forest Dynamics Plot (LFDP), Puerto Rico. A JPEG copy of it can be accessed at the LUQ IM System web
page:

The CDP is a project hosted by the Evergreen College at Olympia, WA, which provides tools for database design and analyses. These tools are available to the scientific community for their use. I am very thankful to the CDP team for all their support and for the creation of the poster's visualizations which was visited inquired upon by many at the ESA Poster session. It was a great esperience to collaborate with Jill and Nick in preparing this poster. It was a learning and fun experience.

Partial results of a survey on LUQ member knowledge on the LUQ IM System:

At the beginning of August, I posted a survey to learn about how much the LUQ community knows about the information management system's components and
its web page. Eleven people answered, nine of which were investigators (non-students). The following web page will be posted next week with the results
for this survey which is intended to give the bases to develop an educational strategy:

http://luq.lternet.edu/datamng/LTERSurveys/IMSystem/Results.html

The preliminary conclusions for this survey are:

Half of the LUQ community that answered the survey are not knowledgable of all the components of the LUQ information management system. Half of the people are uncertain or do not know the components of the system, the other half have a partial knowledge of the system. Those who are aware of some of the components have received and/or participated LUQ IM's services such as data entry/QC and metadata completion assistance.

About half the people (~54%) know about the IM Web page (http://luq.lternet.edu/datamng/). It seems as if those who know more about the system use this web page regularly or partially.
