From Juan Felipe Blanco

New Publications

2007. Blanco, Vera & Ortíz-Zayas. The influence of teleconnections on rainfall variability in southwestern Puerto Rico. Pages: 55-61. In: Proceedings of V FRIEND World Conference, Havana, Cuba. Selected presentations on Latin America and the Caribbean. UNESCO-International Hydrological Program VI Technical Document IHP-LAC No. 11. (In English, see attached).

The published version of this paper came to my hands just last month but I think it would be of interest for those working the climatic hypotheses.

We proposed a Joint Index combining the SO and NAO indices and found that it significantly explained yearly variability of rainfall in the Guanica State Forest. It would be interesting to search for similar signatures of teleconnections on rainfall and other parameters within the LEF.

Randall Myster

New Publication

New paper accepted for publication in the Canadian Journal of Forest Research entitled "Is there a 'middle-way' between permanent plots and chronosequences?" with Michael Malahy.

This is my second paper using data from LTERDBAS #97.

Eda C. Melendez-Colom

Information Management

Information manager Eda C. Melendez-Colom participated in the First Training for Information Managers, sponsored by and held at the LTER Network Office (LNO), last May 19 to 23. The training was on learning XML (Extensible Markup Language) - "a flexible way to create common information formats and share both the format and the data on the World Wide Web, intranets, and elsewhere" -http://searchsoa.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid26_gci213404,00.html).

Also, from June 16 to the 20th, Marsh White and Inigo San Gil, from the LNO, will be visiting the LUQ LTER IM office to collaborate with Eda in the designing of a new web site (http://luq.lternet.edu). Suggestions in regard to the content and design of the new web site are welcome. Please send them to Eda at emelendez@lternet.edu.
