PhD Defense:

Melanie Lenart passed her PhD Defense at the University of Arizona after successfully defending her PhD thesis on "A Comparative Study of Soil Disturbance from Uprooted Trees in Puerto Rico and Colorado". A large part of this research was conducted in the Bisley watershed after Hurricane
Georgesa.

Discussion

John Thomlinson will discuss spatial analysis in LUQ-LTER. John will illustrate uses of spatial analyses and then discuss applications to LUQ projects and respond to any questions you have about particular projects. Bring your space questions. Those not attending, send us your questions for discussion.

Synthesis Book

The synthesis book group (Ariel, Nick, Todd, Mike, Bob, Bill, Fred) are meeting October 19 and 20 in Puerto Rico to move the LUQ synthesis book along.

Education

Steven McGee is in Puerto Rico for a few days for an on-going education project and to discuss education initiatives with LUQ-LTER
