New study:

I was down in Puerto Rico just before Hurricane Fabian to initiate a new study of carbon dynamics on landslides from the 17 April 2003 storm. Christine West, Laura Weiss and Aaron Shiels will be working on this project at least until December.

From Jess Zimmerman:

Workshop:

Jess Zimmerman and Jill Thompson are participating in the third Analytical Workshop sponsored by the Center for Tropical Forest Science. The workshop is being held at Harvard Forest and participants are learning to how to
analyze mortality and growth patterns on large forest dynamics plots.

EL Verde:

1. Installation of the new communications system is proceeding. Most of the cabling is done and efforts are being made to mount the radios connecting campus, El Verde, and the Streamhouse. Now, if we can just get somebody to install some new outlets, we can plug the whole thing in.

2. Construction of the new dormitory is expected to begin this month and continue for 6 months (or so).
